Amazing Faith

Though He slays me , yet will I trust Him. Even so I will defend my own ways before Him.

He shall be my salvation. Job 13:15-16a (NKJV)

These were Job’s words spoken during his period of pain and suffering. As we know, Job became the embodiment of unshakeable faith and strength to bring comfort and strength during out time of turmoil. It was so daring to declare a statement like that at a time of loss of property, children, health and wealth. It is a time one wants to strike back and blame someone for their troubles and to seek comfort in self-pity.

Most of the times, it is God, who gets blamed or questioned for the sufferings we encounter.

Unless we have a faith so solid as a rock, we may not be able to say what Job had said at his time of suffering. Even when his wife told him, “Curse God and die!” Job’s response to her was, ” You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?” Job 2:9-10 (NIV)

What is more amazing was his statement, “Even if I will defend my ways before Him” meaning that he would reason it out with God why things were happening to make him feel isolated and ridiculed.

Here, Job lets us know that if we have questions or doubts, it’s okay to talk it out with God rather than assuming that it was a punishment from God. Job knew God too well to not to blame Him for his sufferings. God was his only hope for deliverance. He knew in his heart that he hadn’t sinned against God. And that gave him the confidence and freedom to argue his case before God. That is faith standing on solid rock !
