Humility

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.” Philippians (2:3-4a)

Lowliness in mind meaning humility and meekness are no more admired or accepted virtues of this day an age. Love yourself! Go after what you want, succeed in whatever way you take. Be first, famous and be known are the guideposts we are pushed or persuaded to follow these days in order to survive in the world we now live in.

Even me in my old age, who had grown up knowing the value of humility tend to encourage my children to run faster, climb higher and succeed to get recognized. We rarely impose them the virtue of humility on them. Why? Because of the fear, they will be left behind, trampled, looked down and be used by those above them for their own benefits.

Yes, we are swallowed up by the virtues of the present age which emphasize on “I’ and Me’ only watchwords.

It is here we need to look up to Christ and learn from Him servitude and humility. He, being the Son of God, lowered Himself to serve the people to the extent of getting down on His knees and washing the dirty feet of His disciples as well as befriending and eating with the outcastes of the society at that time. That was Humility in action and Servitude on display.

If you and I want to call ourselves Christians, we need to display at least a shade of His meekness and humility.

Help us Lord to learn to walk like You day by day and be worthy to be called a Christian.
